British Columbia’s ruggedly mountainous West Kootenay region has long been a haven for seekers and escapees. Individualism, a fierce love of nature, a desire to be left alone, and heaping helpings of downright quirkiness, are traits not simply tolerated here, they are broadly admired.
Chapter Six of Dodge introduces readers to a couple of characters — Achilles Bergstein and Jemima Kiss — who exemplify what I’m talking about.
